Still More Backgrounds

I worked on two more backgrounds today in my journal.  I think if my backgrounds are done and ready to go then maybe I'll actually journal more often.  So I now have about 5 pages prepped and ready.  Some might stay this way others might have a redo before journaling on them....bur isn't that what its about.

First...for Michelle Ward's GPP Street Team.....Challenge number 42!!!  Whooo Hooo...40 more challenges to do and I'm all caught up...LOL!!!
Stripes
This page is not what it started out as.  Actually it was done accidentally on purpose.
I started to prep 3 pages with gesso today and sandwiched wax paper between the pages while working on the next.  I went to heat dry them and as I opened it up, the gesso and top layer of the paper stuck to the wax paper so I decided to just collage new paper over the base paper, so I covered the spread with some music score papers I had.  Then I remembered this challenge, teared so strips of background papers up that I got in a swap and glued them down.  dropped some blue paint over the whole thing to blend and found a decorative stamp....and I love the results.  Thanks for the challenge Michelle.

Roses:  The results of my daughter playing with my papers and markers.   As we were sitting in the basement last night she found a sheet of tissue paper with silver roses on it.  She took my Bic Markers and colored each rose a different color.  Very pretty, but then we turned it over and realized the colored seeped through only where the tissue was, not the silver.  The results were a beautiful bed of roses.  I told her I would put in on a background so I did!  Hope you like it.  You never know what the results will be when you just sit down to play.

My bargain for the weekend was a copy of Betty Edwards book, Color, a course in mastering the art of mixing colors.  I found this at Borders in a bargain box for $3.99.  It's been on my Paperback Swap wish list for a while so I bought it.  I think it will be very interesting.

Hope everyone else had a creatively productive weekend.

Lisa - I agree with you ~ when you have prepped pages in your journal it is a fast way to get started. (I never leave my studio without leaving one spread drying so it's ready in the morning) Cool that the mishap with the wax paper ended up becoming the catalyst for making a ripped strip background. Yay! Thanks for playing again!

The roses are gorgeous - even better knowing they were a bonus from an original. Love when that happens!

Aren't those roses great! What a fortuitous accident (my word for the day LOL). I admire you for getting journal pages ready to go, you sound so organised.

Lovely backgrounds - could be finished pages! Playing with markers turned amazing! Very cool!
Thank you for guessing my 'mystery'. I tried to send you an email, but it came back as undelivered.... xo

Having prepared backgrounds makes it easier to work in a journal....and I like the result you achieved with the wax paper crisis! And the roses are gorgeous!!

Lisa, great to find you in "blogland" today! I especially love your blog title, and can totally relate to the name, ;). We have very similar blog names AND it seems we both LOVE journaling too! I, also, love to do background pages "in bulk," and then have prepared pages ready when the mood and/or idea and/or time strikes! Love your blog, and your journaling, and look forward to getting to know you! Happy creating!

Oh it's never a mistake, it's just an unexpected gift.

The blue is gorgeous and the extra rose bed is lovely. Amazing how things turn out.

I love both pages - they both work so well. I like the stamping over the strips in your first piece and what a great piece of serendipity for the second!.

Love those bargains - especially combined with books! I like the vertical strips of paper page - I've been doing a lot of vertical lately. Your new header picture is fabulous! Your daughter's cute feet, sandals, and great reflections.

Great things happen with accidents and mishaps while creating. The new header is great. Love the feet and reflections. Fun to walk on the beach and feel the cool water. Thanks for sharing your process. Look forward to seeing what you do with your backgrounds. Roses are beautiful and lovely that your daughter worked on them.

I like the idea of doing backgrounds in advance. It would keep the creativity going even if you dont have a finished page or prompt in mind. What I love about art journaling is that there are no mistakes or disasters, they are just a detour to get to the end result, a lovely learning curve.
I love your pages and look forward to going over your earlier posts.
Thanks for visiting my blog

Lovely pages - a touch of serendipity perhaps with the wax paper. I really love the colours you have used. Thanks for sharing.

haha I LOVE your enthusiasm! I can't imagine catching up on all the challenges, but I will say that I've learned a lot from doing the few that I've done. I enjoyed looking at your work. :-)
