Try Something New

I love seeing all the art journal pages with the beautiful backgrounds.  I have watched hours of You Tube videos of people painting, gluing, gessoing, coloring, dyeing...the list goes on and on as to what you can do for a background that I decided to go with that approach.  This week was a "just practice your background" week.  I decided to post the results.  Here are the two backgrounds I completed.

I am looking for feedback and critique.  It can be what you like about them or what you would change about them.  Please be honest with me.  I actually think they came out really cool.  I was quite pleased.  I know what I am using the double page for.  The other one is just waiting for something to happen to write about on it.  I will post the finished pages as well once I get to that point.  I am really loving playing with the different paints and mediums.

I think my favorite supplies right now are paints and printed napkins.  There are so many pretty ones out there.  That was primarily the focus on the double page spread.
On the single page I started by spraying over  a piece of lace trim.  I am really digging that look.

Tell me what you are digging right now?????

These are very good!! I love this approach to journaling - when I am in a slump I just pull out my journal and start laying down paint and scraps. Prepared backgrounds are then just waiting for my moments of inspiration. I never worry that my journal is out of order :-) Keep it up - you will grow to love this!

Great backgrounds. I only have one journal done with painted backgrounds. It was fun and I want to do more of them. I will too as soon as I quit taking so many classes.

Both of your backgrounds are wonderful. I don't think I'd change a thing but the true test will be in what you are inspired to put on them. Great job and thanks for sharing.
I found you through the Blog Hop. So I'm glad to meet you, too.
